Making The Difference With Gift Giving Part 1 of 3

One of my favorite parts of the Christmas season is when I start getting Charity Gift Catalogs.  I love how practical and doable they are.  Sure there are lots of terrible things in the world I can’t fix, but I can give chickens or seeds.  I wanted to share three different catalogs with you over the next three gift giving weeks as well as some of my favorites in each one.

These are the perfect gift for the person who has everything, the compassionate person, and the minimalist (as well as many others).

Week 1-ADRA’s Really Useful Gift Catalog

Here are some of my favorites:

Gift 3-Invest in Hives for Better Lives in Niger, $65 per woman.  Beekeeping kits and training to produce honey will be given to a woman

Gift 6-Buy Improved Cookstoves for the Quechua In Ecuador, $25.  Provides a cookstove that vents outside instead of the open fires that creates lots of breathing problems, especially for kids.

Gift 11-Provide a Latrine to a Tea Worker in Sri Lanka, $38.  Provides latrine and hygiene training.

Gift 39-Stop Sex Trafficking in India $150.  Create a rescue center on the border and train gatekeepers to detect potentially trafficked women and girls.

There are 61 different gift ideas including food, water, education, women’s safety, sustainability and emergency management.

Here is an online version of the catalog to search through.

  1. What a great catalog! I love the heifer international catalog. It makes me happy to see what I am putting my money towards. I have also read a lot about compassion international, which is sponsoring a child. I have never heard of this organization before, will have to look into it more.

    • Yeah, compassion is a great organization! I plan on posting something on them in the new year. They also have a 4 star (perfect) rating on Charity Navigator. Very similar to World Vision, which we already sponser through. It is great to make a personal connection as well as just sending money. 🙂 I will have to look up the other catalog. I just love that there are so many people working and so much good being done.
