Day 14-Lake Louise and the Tea Houses

Today was an awesome day of hiking! We hiked around Lake Louise up to the Plain of Six Glaciers tea house. From there we could see the glaciers hanging from the side of the mountain all around. We got to hear and see the ‘white thunder’ of glaciers breaking and snow falling off the mountain. The people that work at the tea house get one helicopter drop of supplies per season and hike or pack up on horses everything else. They serve a full menu of tea, sandwiches, deserts and more. They stay up on the mountain for 5 days at a time. I think that would be such a cool job!

From there we went over to the Lake Agnes tea house. The building had to be replaced about 20 years ago, but similarly, they only get one drop of supplies and haul in and haul out garbage on horse. From the Lake Agnes trail we could see Lake Louise from above with its brilliant green blue water.

I liked the Plain of Six Glaciers hike and tea house better. Lots of the walk was on the side of the mountain and the view was amazing. Combined, the hike was 13.5 km long with an elevation gain of 385 meters at the second tea house.

Took the kids into Banff this evening to wander the tourist shops and have ice cream. We decided to go spend our $4 at the grocery store buying enough ice cream to make ourselves sick, instead of buying 1 cone at the ice cream shops. Now, at 9:30 we are driving back with some seriously sugared up kids…

We are walking along there in the middle, hard to see.  Bryon took a picture from a horse trail while we walked along the cliff.
