Big News #1

Image: by

I have some awesome news to share with you today!  … it all started with an e-mail (that I was sure was fake at first) last July.

You might be just as surprised, and I wouldn’t be at all offended.

It is proof that sometimes hard work and a lot of luck can sometimes cross paths for anyone.

Last summer Skyhorse publishing wrote me and asked if they could publish 321 Stop – stop running and start living.  Really publish it, a real publisher!

Needless to say I freaked out.  I was sure this was a fake or a scam.  I had tried to submit it to some other publishers but no one even wrote back.  This time they wrote to me!

Talk about a great way to expose self-doubt… I struggle with it, especially with writing… I got a F in spelling in 4th grade and have always had my GPA pulled down by anything connected to English (spelling, grammar, writing, phonics, vocab, reading comprehension .. and any other English related thing you can think of).

But I love writing for you.  I love blogging and trying to share what I am learning with you.  Writing all three of my books has been a very fun process.  … I just never thought they were that good.

But, whether they it is good enough or not, this one is being published!

They changed the title. Here is the new book:

To say that I am excited about it would be an understatement.   Traditional publishing is something very new to me and I still have lots to learn, but it will be a great learning experience.

Ok, here is good news and bad news:

The good:

  • On April 1, 2013 I will be a published author
  • If you have read the book already, you are totally ahead of the game 🙂
  • If you haven’t read it yet, you can get a much better looking and formatted copy in either kindle or print
  • If you read it already and liked it, this version will look much better to gift to a friend

The bad:

  • If you haven’t got a copy of the book yet… you now have to wait until April 1 (so sorry, but it will be worth the wait)

Want to know even more crazy stuff?

I have a contract with Skyhorse to do a book on simple homeschooling due out early 2014!  I am really excited about starting to work on this project.  If you know other homeschoolers, or are a homeschooler who wants to be involved, contact me and let me know.

  1. Michael Michael

Congrats Lorilee, this is awsome. It proves that it rewarding to follow your passion. I am sure this book will become a great succes!

  2. Cam Cam

Congrats Lorilee! Great “simple” new cover!

    • Thanks bro. I think I liked my other cover better, but I figure they know what sells best 🙂

  3. Jod Jod

    Congratulations!!!! What an accomplishment.

  4. Oh wow! I’m so happy for you!!! That’s fantastic. (And, it is a great book!)

  5. Way to go Lorilee! We homeschool, too. Let me know if I can help. I know you will do a great job.

    • Georganne, I will be in touch in a few weeks 🙂 Thanks!

  6. Congratulations! The new title is very good although it isn’t as catchy as your original. But the word “handbook” really gives it some authority.

Nice to see your hard work paying off for you.

    • Bill, thanks! I liked my other title too, but I guess it doesn’t really tell people what the book is about. There is over 20,000 of the 321 Stop books floating out in the world already, we will see how the new cover, title, and traditional publishing works. It will be really neat to compare the two formats with the same book!

  7. Michelle Michelle

Great news! I homeschool also. I have six children, two have Down syndrome. Let me know if I can help.

    • Michelle, thanks so much. I will be in touch with you in a few weeks 🙂

  8. Elizabeth Kane Elizabeth Kane

Lorilee!!!! I’m so happy for you! Congratulations!!! 🙂

  9. Congrats! If I can help you out in any way with the homeschooling book, let me know.

  10. Nely Nely

Congrats! I am very happy that you are happy. 🙂

I just wanted to let you know that you were already a published author!!

I love your books. They are not any better now just because a “publisher” had redone your book a bit. It was already a great book.

You should be very proud of the work you did on your own TERMS! I can’t think of anything better than that. 🙂

  11. Raye Cage Raye Cage

Congratulations Lorilee! I’m buying it. Then one day when I have the honor of meeting you face to face you can autograph it.

  12. Manu Manu

    Wow! Congratulations 🙂

  13. Marissa Marissa

That is amazing!!!!! Congratulations to you!!!!

  14. How exciting! Congratulations…

  15. Kelli Kelli

That is great! I’m enjoying your books, making my way through the homeschooling one now. Looking forward to your next one!

  16. Lorilee! That’s wonderful news. Congratulations and I’ll look forward to the ultra-polished version. 🙂 Well done, friend!

  17. Maren Maren

This is really awesome. I’m looking forward to getting one of the new copies.

    Greetings from cold cold Germany

    • Maren! How are you? It is cold, cold here too 🙁

  18. Kerry Kerry

Lorilee, that is so great!! I’m so excited and proud for you! It just proves that when you have passion, you can overcome (what you thought were) your weakest areas and turn them into your greatest success! I hope to get a copy when it comes out in April! 🙂

  19. I’m doing a HAPPY dance inside my heart! This is SO exciting, Lorilee! You deserve this and you earned it! God has given you a “voice” to share with others. I can’t wait to see how He uses you in even greater ways.

    🙂 Amy

  20. That’s fantastic news Lorilee. I think we can safely say you are OK at this writing thing! Isn’t it great how the Internet provides the opportunity to emerge as a writer without needing to rely on traditional publishing channels. You have already proven yourself as a blogger and ebook writer so it’s great to have this opportunity emerge from all that work.

  21. Thats fantastic news Lorilee. I love how the Internet provides the opportunity for writers to present themselves without the need to go through the traditional publishing route. You have certainly earned your credentials as a blogger and eBook writer, and its great to see that acknowledged by a conventional publishing house. I am intrigued. Are we to expect a Big News #2?

    • Yes, a Big News #2 is coming 😉

I love the internet too. I love reading other self-published books and I love the fact that I can write books and have them published if a publisher picks them up or not. I have a few more book ideas I want to work on this year 🙂

  22. Valerie Valerie

Congratulation, What a blessing! I am also a homeschooler who would be happy to help. I have lead a homeschool support group in our community for the last 10 years or so. I am new to the blogging world though. Your blog is one of the first that I have read! Thank you for the encouragement. I look forward to getting your book when it comes out.

  23. Jen Jen

We homeschool also and would love to be involved!

    • Jen, thanks! I will be in touch in the next few weeks.

  24. This is really awesome news! Congratulations! 🙂

  25. Lisa Lisa

Just discovered you! You have great perspective! Other than the kindle version (I’ve no Kindle!), do you have any other options to purchase your book before April?

    • Lisa, unfortunately I have an agreement with the publisher not to sell the old version of my book after Jan 15. I have my newer book Simple Living – 30 days to less stuff and more life (on that is available. It is shorter and easy to read on the computer because the chapters are short and the assignment is most of the time 🙂 You can get a kindle app for the computer. If you have any trouble let me know, I can get it to you in another electronic format. (I just did this one in electronic format because it is shorter and not much of a paper book)

  26. How exciting! You definitely deserve any “luck” involved. But I’m pretty sure it’s all the hard work 🙂 Enjoyed the book, and so glad you get to share it in a new format!

  27. Congrats Lorilee! That is exciting! I wish the homeschooling one was already done, we will be “officially” starting with our kindergartener in the fall 🙂 I’m pretty sure our simple homeschooling will be more of the same – drawing, exploring, reading, but it’s still easy to get drawn into too much

    • Alison, congratulations! It is super fun 🙂

  28. Pam Pam

I must have been under a ROCK or something (recovering from the holidays, I guess) that I MISSED THIS! This is SO AWESOME! I’m so happy for you! YOu do such a great job with the blog, your book is going to be great as well! Waiting for April 1st to see the “hard copy”!
