It Isn’t Content You’re Missing

What are you good at?  What did you love in school?  What have you always wanted to do? Are you doing it now?

Maybe it isn’t content you are missing

Have you had a nagging though in your head? Something you have wanted to try? Maybe something you are trying to get started now? What is keeping you from doing it?

Maybe it isn’t quality you are missing

What do you want to try that is yours?  Is there a part of you that you want to share with others?

Maybe you are living the way you want to live, but maybe not.  Maybe there is something that has been bugging you, something you have wanted to start, or something you are wanting to put more time into.  … but you are not sure if the content or quality is good enough.

It isn’t content or quality you are missing.

Are you wanting to write, to speak, to draw, to start your own business, or make another life change?

It isn’t content or quality you are missing.

Ok, to be honest, maybe you don’t have the content or quality you want. But these aren’t the things missing or keeping you from your dream.  These things are important, but most people don’t start with quality… they just start.

Don’t wait for quality, perfection, everything to be figured out before you make a move.

Waiting for ‘good enough’ is a recipe for ‘not starting at all’.

My experience:

I spent years dreaming of speaking… kind of strange because I am also terrified of public speaking.  I just had ideas in my head that would roll around and I kept dreaming of sharing them.

About 2 and a half years ago I sat down and decided to start a blog.  I have never been good at grammar, but I wanted to get these ideas out of my head.  I always hated English class in school,

…but this is now my 499th post!

My grammar is still bad, but it is getting better (trust me…).  If I had waited until I thought my quality was good enough I would have never started.

Back then I had no idea what I would write about, but I sat down and started.

About a year and a half ago I decided to try a book.

I now have 3 books out, one traditionally published, and total book numbers should pass 100,000 this month.

As I am sitting here thinking about these things I am really wanting to share with you, that you can do your dreams too.

  • Maybe you don’t have the quality you want, but it isn’t quality you are missing – you can start now.
  • Maybe you don’t know where it will all go or if you will be able to continue – but it doesn’t need to keep you from starting.
  • Maybe no one will like what you have to share – … right now no one likes it yet either… they haven’t seen it.
  • Maybe it will take time and money and never develop into something that will pay you back – will you regret it if you don’t try?

It makes me sick how much fear controls our lives, how much it controls my life.  The effort it takes to step toward your dreams is sometimes working 5% and fighting fear 95%.

But fear isn’t an excuse to hold it inside any longer.

Do you have something you are wanting to try?

Don’t let fear stop you?  It doesn’t seem like fear, but it masks itself behind quality, time, content, money and more ‘seemingly’ good excuses.  However, it usually comes down to just being fear.

And fear is a bad reason not do try something.

I love this movie!  Take a few minutes to watch it.

(here is the link)

Now, I know making money is important.  Some people find a way to do what they love and make money, and it is a popular thing thing to tell people to try and do.  However, I don’t know that it is always possible to make enough money doing what you love.

… but don’t let that stop you.  Don’t give up and conform to societies norm of working all day to fall down in front of the TV all night.  Maybe you won’t be able to devote all your time to what you love, but you can spend some time.  Maybe you can’t put as much money as you would like into your dreams, but don’t let that stop you.

Don’t stop because you feel you are missing something – content, quality, time, money or something else

Just start!

  1. Thanks for the post Lorilee. I know how this feels, I was never happy at my J–O–B. But I was scared to do what I wanted because I might fail. Well, my husband took my hand and told me to do it, and now I have my own business that has been open for 5 years now. It is not all roses, but I still love what I do. Thanks again for the inspiration and I hope the best to you with all of your dreams!

  2. I am so happy you stepped out to become a writer…because your writing blesses me abundantly! God has used your “voice” in my life to nudge me to do the things I didn’t have the courage to do before.

So encouraging, Lorilee! And you are clearly walking your talk. Thank you!

  4. Nancy Nancy

Lorilee you are very creative and encouraging. I think you’re right that FEAR IS THE REAL ENEMY behind a lack of motovation. Many of us are trapped by fear. I enjoyed the movie about creativity under pressure. Thanks for sharing.
